WHY DO I NEED AN MOT CERTIFICATE?
All vehicles that are more than 3 years old are required by law to have a valid MOT certificate. The certificate itself is issued by The Ministry of Transport and is known as an MOT test. If your vehicle is elegible, you are required to have your vehicle inspected and tested on an annual basis to ensure the safety of the vehicle meets certain safety standards and levels of carbon emissions set out by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
When you car is ready for testing, an authorised tester will carry out an inspection to ensure the vehicle is in basic, roadworthy condition. It should be noted that the MOT test is not a test of your vehicles overall mechanical or electrical condition, it is simply designed to check the safety of the vehicle.
Once your MOT test has been completed, the tester will issue a pass certificate valid for one year, if your vehicle should fail its MOT it will be issued a fail document and given the oppurtunity of a free re-test within 14 days. This allows you time to make any required repairs and have the vehicle re-tested at no additional cost.
